Town Clerk Tax Collectors Office Closure and Update October 2023

Updated October 1, 2023

Latest Office Hours Information of rmonth of October

Update from the Allenstown Town Clerk / Tax Collector’s office:

The Allenstown Town Clerk / Tax Collector’s office has undergone a complete transition with new personnel, requiring training for both the new town clerk /tax collector and the deputy from the ground up.  The Town Clerk / Tax Collector Assistant chose to continue working with us, and her knowledge and guidance has been invaluable as we transition and train our new personnel.

The reason we have been closed is because our new personnel are required to be trained by the State of NH prior to performing any transactions in the DMV database.  Access credentials are only provided after training is satisfactorily completed, and the training is only conducted once a month.

We are eternally grateful to the Towns of Bow and Hooksett for processing DMV registrations for us during this ongoing transition, and to the Towns of Pittsfield and Gilmanton for providing on the job training.  Their guidance and training are appreciated and has been very valuable to us.

Going forward, we will post a monthly schedule so our residents can plan accordingly.  Although we are learning at a fast pace, there are many circumstances that we can’t possibly train for.  On the days we are open, there may be some services that we cannot immediately provide until a more experienced person is available.  We ask for your patience and understanding during these unique situations as we gain the knowledge to better serve you.

We also have a lot of new people moving into town, primarily into 25 Canal (old China mill) and Hillsbrook Senior Living (new building on Chester Turnpike).  We welcome our new residents to Allenstown.  Many new residents come from other towns and out of state.  With that comes the need for transactions such as new registrations, and new title applications from out of state.  Please understand that these are time consuming transactions as some people do not have the necessary documentation and we try to assist them to the best of our ability.  In many of these instances, we must call the Help Desk at the NH DMV for assistance, and are sometimes the 10th caller in line, which causes a back-up with people waiting in line at our office.

It has been challenging to take on this effort, however we are working through it and our goal is to provide the high-quality service to which the people of the Town are accustomed.  We appreciate your understanding and patience throughout this transition.  We understand that it has been very frustrating for some people; However, we will not process transactions that we do not know how to perform and potentially create non-complying situations for our residents and our office.

Finally, although our office may not be open to the public during certain periods, our staff continues to work behind the scenes and are putting in long hours to learn as quickly as possible. We are also the recipient of very derogatory comments and yelling and cursing by some individuals on a daily basis. This behavior does not change anything and often delays completion of a transaction.  It will not make us learn faster!  Please also be advised that for your protection and ours, the front and back doors, and the inside hallway are under audio and video surveillance.

Public service is both rewarding and very challenging.  All we can say, is we are doing our best to serve all of our residents.

Thank You.
