Public Hearings-Proposed Road Project

The Town of Allenstown is considering a major roadway reconstruction project.  The project would involve the reconstruction of roadways, drainage systems and sidewalks.  The sewer, water and gas utilities are considering replacing/repairing their infrastructure under the roadways in conjunction with this project.  This project would be funded through a bond that would be proposed to the voters in March of 2015.  Some of the work would be completed in 2015 with project completion by the end of 2016.

The following roadways are proposed for reconstruction:

River Rd. (from Rt. 28 South end to Granite St.)

Heritage Dr.

Townhouse Rd.

Meadow Ln.

Library St. (to include replacement of the Town Library parking area)

E. Webster St.

Webster St.

Whitten St.

Reynolds Ave.

Ferry St.

Many of these streets will require replacement of old drainage systems and in some cases construction of new systems.  A decision will need to be made as to whether sidewalks should be replaced (Webster St., Whitten St., Reynolds Ave.) or should the road be widened instead to allow for more on street parking.

We are considering discontinuing a section of Reynolds Ave. that connects Canal St. and Webster St.  This would ease the traffic volume on the adjacent side streets by eliminating this through way to Canal St.

The Board of Selectmen will be holding two public hearings to obtain public input on this proposed project.  The public hearings will be scheduled as follows;

Tuesday, July  15, 2014 at 6 pm at the Town Hall for the following streets-Library St., E. Webster St., Webster St., Whitten St., Reynolds Ave. and Ferry St.

Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 6 pm at the Town Hall for the following streets-River Rd., Heritage Dr., Meadow Ln. and Townhouse Rd.
