New Town Welcome Signs Add Visual Impact

new Welcome sign

The Allenstown Economic Development Committee (EDC) has finished the installation of three new Welcome signs at the Hooksett, Pembroke Route 3, and Pembroke Route 28 town lines. Dave and JJ from the Allenstown Highway Dept. helped with the installation of the bear cubs.

The signs were unanimously approved by the Selectmen at the end of April and funding comes from the Economic Development Capital Reserve Fund approved by the voters last March.

For this project, the EDC spent much time reviewing town signs across New Hampshire, identifying the most appealing features, and working with several sign vendors before a final design was agreed upon. The committee decided that the two most prominent features should be the town name and the slogan. If you were at the Deliberative Session in March 2019, you will recall the speech given by Chairman Michael Frascinella that the EDC wanted to turn Bear Brook State Park from a liability into an asset by claiming that "We are the Home of Bear Brook State Park."

The preceding photo was taken of the sign on Route 3 & 28 coming in from Hooksett. The signs measure 3 ft. high x 4 ft. wide. The carved bear cubs climbing the signs make our Welcome signs unique. There is no other town in New Hampshire with signs like ours!  These bear cubs were created by the same chainsaw artist who created the Bear Ranger at the Bear Brook State Park's campground.
