Updated Letter and other Important Information from Allenstown School Board

Updated 3-26-19

Dear Allenstown Parents and Community Members:

This letter is a follow-up to the press release that was distributed on March 20th. We would like to provide further clarity regarding some upcoming timelines.

The March 20th press release contained an invitation to have parents email their interest in wanting to serve on the joint study committee to explore the tuition option with Three Rivers School (TRS) in Pembroke. We have received great interest in participants wanting to be on that committee. Please note that the school board still needs to discuss the optimal number of participants and makeup of that joint committee at their April 8th meeting.

Second, the Board would like to stress that the tuition option with Pembroke is only one of several options that will be explored as a solution to our aging school buildings. We will be looking for parent and community members to serve on additional study committees to look at other possibilities, such as building a new school and building renovation options. We will be hearing recommendations from the Harriman Group on April 8th, which will provide direction on where we will need additional study committees.

Finally, the Board wants to be clear that all AES and ARD students will remain in their respective schools for the 19/20 school year. The School Board is dedicated to giving adequate time to explore all feasible solutions. The plan would be to put the final, optimal solution forward to the voters as a warrant article on the March 2020 ballot. If the warrant article option is passed by the voters, the solution would be in effect for the 20/21 school year.

As a reminder from the Community Letter that was distributed on March 15th, there will be an opportunity for Q&A at the School Board meetings held on April 8th (AES, 6pm) and May 13th (ARD, 6pm). The Harriman Group will be presenting at both meetings, and this will be an opportunity for members of the community to ask questions of both Harriman Group and the School Board, in regards to the feasibility study and future options for our schools.

Thank you.
