WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATIONS &                   MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT

Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater collection and treatment facilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

·         Works with wastewater operators to perform manual labor in installing, repairing and maintaining pumps, valves, pump stations, and other equipment as needed.

·         Maintains grounds at all facilities.  Cleans and maintains all facilities, including but not limited to: mowing lawns, weed trimming, washing, flushing, painting, etc.

·         Performs various custodial/janitorial duties.

·         Performs daily checklist and project list.

·         Responds to emergency calls 24/7, when on call.

·         Performs work and operates equipment safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures.

·         Performs general maintenance on equipment, machinery, control devices and instruments.

·         Maintains safety equipment.

·         Assists with Dig Safe locating requests.

·         Assists operators with operational duties

·         Assists maintenance supervisor with maintenance duties.

·         Performs any other duties as assigned by management.

Communications:
Must have the ability to actively listen to others for understanding of their needs and situations:  ability to speak and write English clearly.  Must be able to assertively control conversations in order to quickly and accurately gather pertinent information and be able to communicate this information professionally and precisely to the proper recipient.  Must have the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Must act in a decisive manner, using sound judgment.  Must be able to assess problems and situations, able to anticipate needs and evaluate alternatives.  Must be able to effectively interpret the policies, procedures, and objectives of the department.

Technical Knowledge:
Must have basic knowledge in the proper use and care of a variety of hand and power tools.  Must have skills in the operation of generators, pumps, gauges, and other common heavy and light construction and industrial equipment.  .  Must have some ability to operate computer equipment.  Must be able to use detection devices, mobile radio, phone, calculator and a variety of laboratory equipment.

Physical Abilities:
Must have the ability to read and discern visual images on a variety of media.  Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse conditions.  Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Must possess or be able to obtain a valid state driver’s license prior to employment.

Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
